I want to brand myself as an automation engineer who knows both HW and SW. And I play video games.
So I practice automation on my video gaming experience.
The following tasks are automated in my gaming experience:
- Nightly file backups locally and off-site.
- Dedicated video game servers with passwords makes them a safe gaming experience.
- Internet radio stations streaming from my house keep me listening to my own music when on the road.
- VOIP using Teamspeak 3 means even remote players are kept up to date on the game's tactical situation in real-time.
- OpenVPN means remote gamers can connect to the oldest games that predate the Internet.
- Hosting my own webpage means friends can be informed of news and download patches.
- Hosting my own wiki grants me access to my own data while outside the house.
- Writing patches and mods means I had to learn the source code of the game and how to reverse engineer SW solutions.

I learned the following lessons from video gaming:
- Apache webserving on Linux
- Samba file sharing on Linux
- Teamspeak 3 servers
- OpenVPN servers and clients on Linux and on Windows.
- Icecast internet radio servers
- dyndns.org and how to talk with people about server URLS.
- rsync and nightly backups
- dokuwiki server
- PDF conversion
- Bugzilla and Git
- Hard drive imaging through Acronis True Image and CloneZilla.
- Perl script writing
- Coding in strange languages like Lua and Unreal script.

As a hobby, I DJ music. I've also created SW that assists me there too.
- Playlist building script reduces the effort to building a
playlist to typing fractions of song names and letting the computer
find the matches.
- Counting scripts that update dashboards on the number of songs I own.
- MP3 tag verification SW that fixes songs that lack an artist or title tag.
- Client-Server SW that helps me automate video playback on remote digital signage.
